Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center
The new Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center is now open.
Memorial Medical Center and Essentia Health are collaborating to provide greater cancer treatment for Ashland and the surrounding region. The Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center will provide comprehensive cancer care, including:
• Radiation Oncology
• Medical Oncology
• Infusion Therapy
• Cancer Resource Center
• Healing Garden
• Nutrition Education
• Social Services
NWCC allows area cancer patients to receive the same services provided at larger, regional cancer centers right here in Ashland. Starting in June, this will include radiation therapy, via a $4 million state-of-the-art Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator. This machine pinpoints the proper dose of radiation with remarkable accuracy and is currently the most advanced accelerator in the region. Medical Physicist Brian Morabito was hired to oversee this effort. Dr. John Boyle has also joined the NWCC staff as a full-time radiation oncologist.
Mihailo Lalich, MD, who lives in the area, will be the primary physician. Supporting Dr. Lalich will be Peter Kebbekus, MD, PhD. Both are board certified oncologists with Essentia Health.
This $12 million project is a collaboration between MMC and Essentia Health.
