Job Description:
Utilizes the nursing process to provide direct and indirect patient within the parameters of hospital policy, the WI Nurse Practice Act and standards of nursing practice. Communicates with providers/nurse manager/co-workers about changes in patient’s clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology; adjusts the plan of care quickly and accurately as needed. Delegates care appropriately to assistive personnel including Technicians, Certified Nursing Assistants / Orderlies (CNA), Health Unit Coordinators (HUC) and Certified Medical Assistants (CMA). Understands and supports MMC Mission, Vision and Values, the principles and activities of True North, and organizational goals.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Utilizes the nursing process to deliver safe and effective patient centered care without constant supervision including:
Assessment: Performs head to toe physical assessment/reassessments for patient populations served which may include newborn, pediatric, adult and geriatric. Assesses patients for psychological, social or spiritual needs including pain, cognition and discharge planning.
Planning: Utilizes interdisciplinary team resources to develop and revise an individualized plan of care as indicated by the patient’s needs and medical treatments. Incorporates cultural/ ethnic/religious/ spiritual preferences, growth and developmental stage characteristics and evidenced based nursing principles into the plan whenever possible.
Intervention: Implements nursing interventions per plan of care in a safe, effective and timely manner including medication and pain management, patient education, and technical nursing skills. Actively participates in multidisciplinary discharge planning.
Evaluation: Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care including response to treatments, understanding of patient/family education and goal achievement. Revises the plan of care and communicates the same as needed.
Documentation: Documents patient assessments, plan of care, nursing actions, patient responses and communication of information to patients, co-workers, providers or family members in an effective and timely manner. - Manages medications/ blood products consistent with institutional policy.
- Maintains a safe environment for patients/families and staff.
- Documentation in the medical records is complete and accurate.
- Adheres to principles and practices of infection control.
- Is responsible for professional practice.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Must be able to read and comprehend written materials of a complex level such as government regulations and other agency requirements written in English.
- Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing including the ability to make effective group presentations in English.
- Must be able to comprehend and make mathematical computations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and statistical applications.
- Understands and effectively uses Microsoft Office, Laborworkx, and clinical documentation systems pertinent to role. Effectively uses internet resources to enhance role.

Education / Licensure / Certification Qualifications:
- A bachelor's degree in Nursing and professional certification is desired.
- Professional certification recommended.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)
- Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) or Emergency Nursing ENCP
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Within six months must meet competencies. Within twelve must complete advanced certifications beyond BLS
Shift Rotation:
- 8-hour shifts
- May be required to take call
- Potential nine/ten hour with variable start times.
