Wisconsin Facemask Mandate

MMC has a Respiratory Information Line that people with mild to moderate respiratory symptoms can call regarding next steps. That number is (715) 685-5297.

Memorial Medical Center is currently restricting visitors to our facility. Typically, only one visitor per patient is allowed, but depending on the current COVID-19 climate in our community, this may change based on the medical team’s recommendations.

Memorial Medical Center is also offering curbside COVID-19 testing by appointment ONLY. Please see the dropdown menu below for more information, including hours of operation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is COVID-19?

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory illness that can spread from person to person. The virus that causes COVID-19 is a novel coronavirus that was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China. The first case of COVID-19 in the United States was reported on January 21.

How can I protect myself?

There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19, though some are in development stages. The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:

– Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

– Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.

– Stay home when you are sick.

– Always wear a mask.

– Cover your cough or sneeze into your elbow.

– Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.

– Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

– Practice social distancing.

Does CDC recommend the use of facemask to prevent COVID-19?

Yes. And Wisconsin is currently under a mandatory facemask requirement.

The CDC continues to provide important updates regarding the use of face masks. Please refer to this link for the latest information. The use of facemasks also is crucial for health workers and other people who are taking care of someone infected with COVID-19 in close settings (at home or in a health care facility).

Please click HERE for the official state mandate.

Memorial Medical Center requires that all visitors and patients wear medical-grade surgical masks. These can be purchased at pharmacies and retail stores.

Can I get tested for the virus at my doctor’s office or at the hospital?

You can get tested for COVID-19 at your doctor’s office or at the hospital, however; currently, only people who meet certain criteria will be tested. Criteria include: symptoms such as fever, cough or shortness of breath, and likely or known exposure to a person with COVID-2019. If you think you meet these criteria and need to be tested, call ahead to your doctor’s office to determine your next steps. If you are not having any symptoms or if you are having symptoms but no exposure, then you typically would not be tested at this time.

If you do not have a primary care provider, please call any of the local primary care clinics:

Essentia Health – Ashland Clinic: (715) 685-7500

NorthLakes Community Clinic: (715) 685-2200

Main Street Clinic: (715) 682-5601

St. Luke’s Chequamegon Clinic: (715) 685-6600

You can also call the MMC Respiratory Informational Line at: (715) 685-5297

This Respiratory Information Line is for people experiencing mild to moderate respiratory symptoms. People who have received a COVID test order from their doctor’s office can call this Respiratory Information Line to schedule an appointment for curbside COVID-19 testing at Memorial Medical Center.

Can someone who has COVID-19 spread the illness to others?

COVID-19 is spread from person-to-person. Someone who is actively sick with COVID-19 can spread the illness to others. That is why CDC recommends that these patients be isolated either in the hospital or at home (depending on how sick they are) until they are better and no longer pose a risk of infecting others.

How long someone is actively sick can vary, so the decision on when to release someone from isolation is made on a case-by-case basis in consultation with doctors, infection prevention and control experts, and public health officials and involves considering specifics of each situation including disease severity, illness signs and symptoms, and results of laboratory testing for that patient.

How can I be screened for COVID-19?

In order to protect our community and prevent spread, it is important that individuals who believe they may have been infected with Coronavirus (COVID-19) use the following process to direct care. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911.

-Essentia Health is providing free COVID-10 screenings to anyone experiencing symptoms by calling their toll-free phone number at 1-833-494-0836 or through an e-visit on their health portal, MyHealth. The e-visits provide 24/7 access to connect to an Essentia Health Care team without requiring you to leave home.

-St. Luke’s Chequamegon Clinic is also offering two, free E-Care visits per user. You can also call their toll-free phone number at 1-218-249-4200 to complete a COVID-19 screening.

Physicians and advanced practice providers make the decision to test patients for COVID-19 in consultation with local health departments.

For those that have flu or cold-like symptoms, please stay home from work or school, and practice social distancing. If symptoms worsen, or you have any concerns, please call your primary care provider before visiting a doctor’s office, urgent care or emergency department.

MMC also has a Respiratory Information Line that people with mild to moderate respiratory symptoms can call regarding next steps. That number is (715) 685-5297.

This Respiratory Information Line is for people experiencing mild to moderate respiratory symptoms. People who have received a COVID test order from their doctor’s office can call this Respiratory Information Line to schedule an appointment for curbside COVID-19 testing at Memorial Medical Center.

Does Memorial Medical Center offer curbside COVID-19 testing?

Yes. Memorial Medical Center has drive-up, curbside COVID-19 testing available to people who have a doctor’s order for a COVID-19 test. To be clear, this means someone can not simply drive up to the curbside testing area without a prior order from a physician.

In order to participate in our curbside testing, a doctor will have to order a test ( see above for ways to get screened and get a test ordered) and then an appointment will need to be made to get a curbside test.

The patient can call the curbside testing area to schedule an appointment once their test has been ordered from their doctor. Please call the MMC Respiratory Information Line at  (715) 685-5297 to schedule a testing appointment.

Depending on the capacity of this phone line, there may not always be a live operator on the other line. Please be sure to leave your name, date of birth, and a message, and someone from the testing area will call you.

MMC Curbside COVID-19 Testing Hours

7:30am – 2:30pm, 7 days a week

*Please note: you CANNOT receive a COVID-19 test without a doctor’s order. This testing is by appointment only.*
