Memorial Medical Center registered Nurse, Lacy Putnam, RN was recently presented with a DAISY Award for extraordinary nurses, recognizing the wonderful care she provides.
The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s program that honors nurses for the compassionate care they provide to their patients and families every day. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses has been adopted by over 3,000 healthcare facilities around the world to celebrate nurses for their extraordinary care and compassion.
Lacy is a nurse at the Family Birthplace/OB Services of MMC and was nominated by a patient who she cared for there. In the nomination letter (which was read by the patient at the ceremony) Lacy was recognized especially for helping a new mom feel at ease during such a personal, intimate life experience like child birth. “Lacy was always one step ahead. She knew what I needed before I did. She made sure to give me my privacy and my dignity, but she was also right there when I needed her most! She helped me feel safe, comfortable and well taken care of on one of the biggest, best days of my life!”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
Jenny Galley, Family Birthplace Manager says, “Lacy is really an amazing nurse and a truly compassionate person. Her dedication and intuitiveness with patients and their families has been praised by patients and co-workers alike. We are so proud to see her receive the DAISY award.”
MMC presents two DAISY awards to extraordinary nurses each year. Anyone can nominate a special nurse for the DAISY Award. Nomination forms can be found in kiosks located throughout the hospital or on our website. The next award will be presented in November of 2022.
