Cancer Care

<<Back to Services

Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center (NWCC) of Memorial Medical Center, in collaboration with Essentia Health, offers comprehensive cancer care including the very latest in treatments and technology. It allows area cancer patients to receive the same services provided at larger, regional cancer centers right here in Ashland. NWCC provides expert cancer care by providing both Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology treatments.

From utilizing the latest treatments to supportive therapies in a comfortable space, your care is focused around you. The NWCC is built around creating the most comfortable patient experience possible. Treatment couches offer heat and massage options. Local artwork showcases the natural beauty of our region. A nourishment area provides food and beverages for patients undergoing long treatments. And, patient areas always have extra room to ensure families can stay with their loved ones during this difficult time.

The radiation oncology department houses a state-of-the-art Varian™ TrueBeam™ Linear Accelerator and a 4D-capable CT scanner. Together, these allow for the provision of advanced radiation therapy techniques including:

  • Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT)
  • Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT)
  • Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT)
  • Stereotactic Radio Surgery (SRS)

Cancer Clinical Trials

Research has shown that patients receive the highest quality cancer care while participating in clinical trials. Cancer clinical trials at the NWCC are offered to patients through Essentia Health’s participation in NCORP, the National Cancer Institute’s Community Oncology Research Program. Our patients have access to the same clinical trials as other major cancer centers in the United States.

Cancer Resource Center

Patients diagnosed with cancer have many questions. Helping them find credible information is vital in supporting their journey through treatment and recovery. The Cancer Resource Center is here for patients, families, friends and caregivers to research all aspects of cancer, find support groups, and receive information about community resources and more.

Wig Room

A salon-style wig room gives chemotherapy patients a new look and boost of self-confidence when going through treatments. The wigs come in all different colors, styles and lengths and each is treated with special care. Every wig is donated to the Cancer Center, and each is free to any cancer patient. Besides the dozens of wigs in the room, generous volunteers have also knit shawls to wear when receiving infusions and quilts that patients can take home.
