Do you know the signs and symptoms?

Follow the acronym "FAST" to check for stroke symptoms:

F

FACE

Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face droop?

A

ARMS

Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift downward?

S

SPEECH

Ask the person to repeat a simple phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?

TIME

If you see any of these signs, call 9-1-1 right away.

Every 40 seconds, someone in the United States has a stroke, and every 3.5 minutes, someone dies of a stroke.

Getting treatment fast can reduce stroke-related brain damage and increase the chances of survival and recovery. Treatments are most effective when stroke is recognized and diagnosed within 3 hours.
